Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has procured two ZX 300 wind Lidars from ZX Trusted Service Provider, Eunivy Resources LLP, to support wind resource assessment campaigns in Northern Kenya. The deployment of the Lidars will support the development of grid-connected wind energy projects, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to renewable energy expansion and decarbonisation.

The ZX 300 wind Lidars will be deployed alongside existing meteorological masts to assess wind resource potential, enabling KenGen to optimise site selection and wind farm design. By combining remote sensing technology with conventional met mast measurements, KenGen will benefit from a comprehensive wind resource assessment approach, supporting informed project development decisions.
“KenGen’s investment in ZX 300 wind Lidars demonstrates a commitment to strengthening wind resource assessment using remote sensing technology,” said Matthew Smith, Senior Sales Manager at ZX Lidars. “Deployed alongside conventional met masts, the ZX 300 wind Lidars will provide complementary wind measurements that enhance understanding of the wind resource. Combining remote sensing and mast-based measurements can provide additional insight for wind resource assessment, supporting informed project development decisions.”
Eunivy Resources LLP provides consulting and installation services for renewable energy development across Kenya and beyond. Henry Waweru, Managing Director at Eunivy, commented: “We are proud to support KenGen with the procurement of ZX 300 wind Lidars. We are delighted to see the continued growth and acceptance of Lidar to allow faster renewable energy development plans across the region”.
ZX Lidars technology is widely adopted by wind energy developers, operators and consultants worldwide for its proven ability to deliver high-quality wind data. Whether deployed alongside met masts as part of a complementary measurement strategy or as standalone systems, ZX wind Lidars provide accurate and reliable wind measurements throughout the project lifecycle. Their flexibility, rapid deployment and growing acceptance across the wind energy industry are helping to accelerate renewable energy development worldwide.
