ZX OnSite is a flexible support service connecting customers with ZX’s product, field service and service centre expertise. Support is shaped around the needs of each deployment, helping customers maintain campaign uptime and respond efficiently when requirements change.
This case study explores how a practical, collaborative response to a remote wind measurement campaign in Australia helped maintain measurement continuity and became the foundation for ZX OnSite.
The Challenge
Supporting wind measurement campaigns in remote locations can present unique challenges. When a deployed Lidar became unusually unresponsive, remote diagnostics were unable to conclusively identify the cause of the issue.
While situations such as this are uncommon, the immediate challenge was determining the most effective route back to operation. Recovering the Lidar would first require mobilisation to the remote site, followed by decommissioning and onward transportation for assessment. The response therefore needed to balance campaign continuity, site access, logistics and the time associated with each available option.
The ZX Response
Considering the extended distances to recover the Lidar from its remote location, a ZX Technician travelled to work alongside Future Engineering, a ZX Trusted Service Provider in Australia, to investigate several potential causes of the issue. ZX OnSite provided direct access to our OEM expertise to assess the situation and determine the most appropriate response and route back to operation.
| 1 Prepare | 2 Attend | 3 Resolve |
| Potential replacement components were prepared and configured remotely in advance of the site visit. | A ZX Technician travelled to work alongside Future Engineering on site. | Work conducted in country, where the fault was traced and repaired using prepared replacement hardware. |
KEY OUTCOME
Determining the right path forward. Not every issue requires the same response. In this case, direct access to ZX expertise enabled the most appropriate route back to operation to be identified and delivered locally.
The Result
| Reduced campaign disruption | Efficient fault finding | Maintained measurement confidence |
| Resolving the issue locally avoided the Lidar downtime and additional logistics associated with returning equipment for assessment and repair. | Access to product experts enabled the root cause to be identified during the on-site visit, supporting a faster path towards resolution. | Direct involvement from ZX as the OEM provided confidence that decisions were based on detailed product knowledge and an understanding of the deployment requirements. |
“Having direct access to the ZX team helped us quickly understand the issue and determine the most practical route back to operation. The collaborative approach and OEM expertise were invaluable.” Jordan Mayer, Future Engineering
