Banks Renewables appoints ZX Measurement Services at key Scottish wind sites

Complete wind measurement services and Lidars deployed at the proposed Bodinglee Wind Farm, Mill Rig Wind Farm and Lethans Wind Farm Extension.

UK-based renewable energy developer Banks Renewables has contracted wind resource campaign management specialist ZX Measurement Services (ZX MS) to support their expanding development work in the UK.

The family-owned Banks Renewables owns and operates 223MW of renewable energy generation, with a further 547MW in various stages of development. With ten operational onshore wind farms across Scotland and the North of England, a further 14 sites are in development and wind measurements at key wind sites are underway.

ZX MS has recently completed the first of these two-year wind measurement campaigns, using the ZX 300 wind Lidar, at the proposed Bodinglee Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. If consented the 37 turbine site is expected to deliver 266MW of clean energy – enough to provide around 212,928 homes with green electricity annually.

Kasia Szczepanik, development engineer at Banks Renewables added: “On proposed sites such as Bodinglee Wind Farm, where we are considering the latest wind turbine technology at increasing tip heights, Lidars are proving a cost-effective and practical method for providing vital wind measurements across the full height of the eventual wind turbine. The team at ZX Measurement Services has provided us with a professional and holistic approach to our wind measurement requirements, making this part of the project simpler and easy for our team.”

ZX MS has provided Banks Renewables with expert data measuring, power supply and installation services for its Lidar system at the proposed Bodinglee Wind Farm whilst ensuring communications for data transfer, data management and reporting to provide timely updates of project progress. This complete wind measurement system approach has allowed Banks Renewables to access low-cost, reliable and accurate measurements using the industry-leading ZX 300 wind Lidar.

Ian Ravey, Managing Director at ZX Measurement Services commented: “With an exciting and extensive pipeline of projects across Scotland and the North of England, we are delighted to be working closely with Banks Renewables to deliver their full wind measurement campaigns. The proposed Bodinglee Wind Farm is just 25 miles from our HQ, so it will be great for our team to see this project reach each milestone in its development should it be granted planning permission.”
